San Diego Artist Will Barton conjures up paintings paying homage to the great jazz musicians and improvisers.
He combines different materials that create abstract shapes pushing the envelope between positive and negative space. His subtle use of color evokes different tonalities a musician might also use when creating a melody or a phrase. His use of old newspaper and sewing dress patterns creates a textured collage type effect. This is combined with artist’s medium and acrylic paints on wood using mostly recycled materials. The finished product is simple yet sophisticated, moody and alluring.
